Coordinated control of DC circuit breakers in multilink HVDC grid

چکیده
High voltage DC grid is developing towards more terminals and larger transmission capacity, thus the requirements for circuit breakers (DCCB) will rise. The conventional methods only use faulty line DCCB to withstand fault stress, while this paper presents a coordination method of multiple DCCBs protect system. As many adjacent are tripped interrupt current, energy shared, requirement reduced. Moreover, actively controlled help system recovery. primary protection, backup reclosing logic studied. Simulation confirms that proposed control reduces dissipation by around 30–42 %, required current rating IGBTs reduced, recovery time reduced 20–40 ms.

Review of HVDC Circuit Breakers Topologies
Voltage Source Converter-High Voltage Direct Current (VSC-HVDC) is the most efficient and reliable method for electrical power transmission over long distances. The greatest challenge with VSC-HVDC system is that short-circuit faults damages the converter valves and the transmission network. The fault clearing time for the available DC breakers are not fast enough and reliable to provide adequa...

HVDC circuit breaker with sufficient interruption capability and interruption speed, as a key technology to enable HVDC transmission in meshed multi terminal networks do not yet exist. AC circuit breakers in combination with a passive resonance path are used to build HVDC breakers even though the requirements for AC breaking strongly differ from requirements for DC current interruption. Current...
متن کاملCoordinated Primary Frequency Control among Non-Synchronous Systems Connected by a Multi-Terminal HVDC Grid
We consider a power system composed of several non-synchronous AC areas connected by a multi-terminal HVDC grid. In this context, we propose a distributed control scheme that modifies the power injections from the different AC areas into the DC grid so as to make the system collectively react to load imbalances. This collective reaction allows each individual AC area to downscale its primary re...

متن کاملCoordinated Control of Power Systems with HVDC Links
Today’s power systems are large networks of electrical energy sources and load components, connected over long distances mainly through alternating current (AC) transmission and distribution grids. This basic structure currently undergoes significant changes to ensure the stability, availability and sustainability of the future electrical energy infrastructure. As a result, power system operati...
